Ursuline College kicked it into high gear

Ursuline College students kicked it into high gear on June 6th for a planting event at Maple Leaf Cemetery in Chatham.  Chantal Lucarelli's class of 24 students planted 78 trees over a 45 minute period.  The trees planted included White Oak, Red Oak, Sycamore, and a shrub species Button Bush.  A group of students also assisted in mulching the trees to help protect them against weed competition and enhance their visibility to lawn mowers.  The eager group of students decided to make an even larger contribution by joining me June 15th to finish planting the area.

scouts were educated about the importance of our program, learned how to test seed quality, and planted native tree seeds to help out with the environment

The cold-frame boxes are covered in leaf litter to help insulate the seeds from the cold throughout the winter and mimic a natural environment
