The Community Trees Initiative is now booking for fall sessions so please contact me at 519-354-7310 ext. 228 if your group is interested in participating in indoor or outdoor presentations. Types of outdoor events include fall seed collections for both native trees and tallgrass prairie, fall tree planting, prairie plug planting, and cold-frame seeding events.
The first group to participate in fall seed collection was the CKSS Environmental Club. The group learned how to scout for, identify, and collect native tree seeds such as Red Oak, Bitternut Hickory, Tulip Tree, and Black Cherry. 19 volunteers participated in the 1.5 hour long event which took place at O'Neil's Nature Preserve in Chatham, On. They will be joining me again next Tuesday, September 25th at Turin Paw Paw to collect native tallgrass prairie seeds.
