Tree planting at Merlin Conservation Area with Merling Public Area School
Kathryn VanderPryt's grade 3/4 class and Rob Rankin's grade 4/5 class participated in the Community Trees Initiative Program at the Merlin Conservation Area on November 1st, 2012. The group of students planted a windbreak of 25 Eastern Red Cedar trees, and a variety of native tallgrass prairie species at the site. Although it was a cold fall day, the students did a great job and enjoyed helping in the restoration project. Merlin Area Public School has been wonderful participants in our program who have helped out tremendously in our efforts to restore the conservation area.

The cold-frame boxes are covered in leaf litter to help insulate the seeds from the cold throughout the winter and mimic a natural environment
